B8 Esports offlane player Oleg “LastHero” Demidovich got arrested in Minks, Bealrus during peaceful protests against the police brutality and the authoritarian regime of Alexander Lukashenko, who has been in power for the last 26 years.
After the presidential elections held on August 9 in Belarus, the street protest became larger as the army tried to prevent any sort of riots by blocking the roads and entries into the capital. In the afternoon of the election day, the biggest internet provider in the country was blocked and Belarus underwent a three days internet blackout.
With the conflict escalating, a lot of the Belarussian esports players haven’t been able to play at optimal capacity with their teams in the online tournaments.
B8 has two Belarusian players on their roster and over the past week, they had to fight for a spot in the Immortal division of OMEGA League. They didn’t manage to grab one of the slots and unfortunately, they finished second in the group stage of the Divine division, which means that they are eliminated from the competition.
The news regarding LastHero’s arrest was brought by his Bealrausian fellow and teammate, Dmitriy “Fishman” Polishchuk. According to him, Lastero is detained in Žodzina, a city located about 50 kilometers north-east of Minsk.
B8 confirmed that LastHero was arrested last night in Minsk and they ensured their fans that they are investigating the circumstances of his arrest.
Given the conflicts in the country, Nemiga Gaming’s CS:GO players announced two days ago that his team won’t participate in any near future online tournaments.
