The esports scene for Legends of Runeterra has been quiet since beta’s launch, with only the occasional community cups taking place. As a result, content around the game has been reduced mostly to watching a streamer climb Master and trying to learn from them.
But this weekend, one tournament organizer is putting on an initiative exactly like the ones that built the competitive scene in Hearthstone — still the reigning king of the digital card games. AFK Creators, a UK based company, has called forth 24 of the biggest names in Legends of Runeterra and is holding an invitational tournament this weekend: the so-called EU Creators Invitational.
The list of names is impressive. We see players like Runeterra’s world-first Master player Mikuláš “Pokrovac” Dio, the father of the S/N Spider aggro; multiple #1 Master player Mateusz “Alanzq” Jasiński; and brilliant deck builders like Miguel “Mogwai” Guerrero and Dawid “Zetalot” Skalski.
There’s no prize pool on the line and the tournament is a standard groups into single elimination, but at this point, any competition in Runeterra where top players get to test their deckbuilding is welcomed.
