Restaurant chain Chipotle Mexican Grill has launched the Chipotle Challenger Series, the first in a series of Fortnite duos competitions that will run through 2021, starting with the Spring Qualifier kicking off later this month. Qualifiers for the spring event will take place March 24, March 27, and March 28 and feature $65K USD in cash and prizes, and a year’s supply of free burritos. The competition series is being facilitated by esports tournament operator Beyond and the Challonge.com platform.
The top 10 teams of each qualifier round will earn $2.5K in cash, and compete against 10 teams that have been invited to a grand finale. Those teams will feature such stars as JuJu Smith-Schuster, TimTheTatMan, Bugha, Ronaldo, Weston McKinnie, Aydan, and many others. The winning team of the finals will receive $15K, with second place taking home $7.5K, and $5K for third place.
Chipotle says that in 2021, a total of $160K USD will be in up for grabs. Logitech has partnered with Chipotle to give way $100K in prizes as well. More details and rules can be found here.
Chipotle has been active in the gaming and influencer space this month. Last week it partnered with e.l.f. Cosmetics to promote the launch of a limited make-up line and a new menu item that utilized both brands with the help of influential YouTube stars and Twitch streamers. This week it teamed with streamers such as Matthew “Nadeshot” Haag, Tim “Timthetatman” Betar, Jordan “n0thing” Gilbert, Jack, “CouRage” Dunlop, and others to promote a new line of hand-crafted quesadillas.
The Chipotle Challenger Series launched in 2019 and was part of a partnership with DreamHack and ESL.
