Santos Futebol Clube, one of the most traditional soccer teams in Brazil, has secured Epic Games as its sponsor for one game. Through the deal, Santos will be displaying the Fortnite brand on its jersey during the Taça Libertadores da América (commonly known as Libertadores) finals next Jan. 30, against Palmeiras in Maracanã Stadium, Rio de Janeiro.
Financial details were not disclosed.
It is the most important game of the season both for Santos and Palmeiras as the winner qualifies for the FIFA Club World Cup in Qatar, for which the German club Bayern München is already qualified after winning the UEFA Champions League.
Besides displaying on the main spot of the jersey used in the game, the agreement quill also feature activations and a video for Fortnite to be published on Santos’ official social media channels. The deal was negotiated by the marketing agency Druid, which supports Epic Games’ communications and business in Brazil.
Although the agreement is valid only for one game, this is not a sole approach by Santos to the gaming and esports world. The club has licensed its brand to Select e-Sports, which manages the Santos e-Sports team, holding a presence in League of Legends, Free Fire, PUBG Mobile, Rainbow Six Siege, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, FIFA, and Pro Evolution Soccer.
