As 2020 comes to an end, we see players still pushing for the 11K match making rating (MMR) milestone – although for Egor “epileptick1d” Grigorenko, just once was not enough.
The list of players reaching the 11,000 MMR milestone has been growing continuously throughout 2020 after Azel “Abed” Yusop reached the peaked first in May. While we did not have much Dota 2 Pro Circuit action and tons of regional tournaments, players took to bolstering their personal skills within the game, making 11K seem like a walk-in-the-park. One of these being Virtus.pro’s position 1, Egor “epileptick1d” Grigorenko, who surpassed the milestone in August – but has now made news again, as he has achieved it for a second time.
This huge achievement comes just months after Valve stated that they would be cracking down on smurfing and updating their detection policy too as they stated that they have banned upwards of 40,000 smurf accounts. Per Valve’s own rules, smurfing is not necessarily allowed but it is clear that many professional players, and a plethora of casual players too, have at least one smurf account.
While many of the pro players are still grinding towards even 10K MMR on their mains, it is quite the achievement that Egor has reached such a milestone twice in the year. The VP player has definitely shown that he has some amazing skills, as he assisted the teams to some rather fantastic results throughout the regional events – including a monumental victory over OG in the grand finals of EPIC League Division 1.
It will be interesting to see if any more players do reach a peak on a smurf account in the new year and if anyone could possibly come close to 12,000 MMR in 2021.
