Southeast Asia Upper Division DPC League opened today with Fnatic and T1, two of the directly invited teams, going head to head in a best-of-three battle.
Both teams were slated to make their new rosters debut with their first matchup in the 2021 Dota Pro Circuit and both looked to surprise the opposition while staying anchored in the developing 7.28b meta.
Fnatic opened the first game draft with Io and Elder Titan, which allowed them to decide what to do with the heroes as T1 revealed their picks. In the end, the Io went into Marc Polo Luis “Raven” Fausto’s hands, who went for the standard carry item build, Aghanim’s Scepter, BkB, Heart of Tarrasque, Assault Cuirass and tore apart T1’s Wraith King draft in the late game.
While both teams had good initiation tools and teamfight control, Fnatic’s overall strategy and setup with the ET allowed them to recover from nearly a 10k gold deficit to take the first game victory.
Heading into the second game of the series, Fnatic took the WK for themselves and once again tailored a hero line-up that would prevail in the team fights. They had Puck, Enigma and Underlord for area control and an Ogre Magi to keep the Wraith king buffed, while T1 were looking to swarm the enemy with a Naga and Beastmaster.
T1’s game plan was once again shut down by Fnatic’s superior control and the series closed with a 2-0 victory for the latter. Both Fnatic and T1 will have a week break in the DPC league before the return to the action on the 27 of January for Fnatic, who will be pitted against Execration, and on the 30th of the month for T1, who will be playing versus 496 Gaming
