Electric racing series Formula E announced that it is getting involved in esports with the ABB Formula E Race At Home Challenge, and FOX Sports has agreed to air the nine-week special series in the U.S. starting next Saturday.
The competition will be held on the rFactor2 simulator software – a competitor of iRacing that is more popular in Europe and is used by many Formula 1 teams for their standard simulator programs that drivers use to keep sharp or learn the layout of circuits. It will feature all the regular teams and drivers in Formula E plus what the London-based series is calling a “selection of top gamers.”
The first points race is next Saturday, April 25, at 10:30 a.m. ET on FS1. All events will air at that same time and on the same channel.
Formula E will use its typical English-language global feed commentator team of Jack Nicholls, Dario Franchitti, and Nicki Shields.
The addition of Formula E’s esports efforts adds to Fox’s growing array of simulator racing properties that it’s airing amid the coronavirus pandemic, along with the eNASCAR Pro Invitational Series on Sundays and the Wednesday-night events that are spanning different forms of racing.
