North have revealed the departure of Markus “Kjaerbye” Kjærbye effective immediately. The organization made a post on Twitter announced the move via a video and story on their website.
“It is with heavy heart, that we say goodbye to Kjaerbye,” said Christian Engell, Performance Manager at North. “He is, at his best, not only one of the best in the world, but also a great teammate and an inspiring colleague.”
Kjaerbye hadn’t been active on the lineup since he took a break for medical reasons in May. The 22-year-old had cited abdominal pains, chest cramps, and breathing problems.
“I’ve been really happy at North, but it has also been a bumpy road with many changes, and I feel that this break has made me see more clearly,” Kjaerbye said as part of the announcement. “Currently, I still need some time, but I know I’m far from done with CS. This is what I know, and I look forward to my next adventure.”
He had been with North for two and a half years following his controversial separation from Astralis. During his time with North the squad won Dreamhack Masters Stockholm 2018 as well as DreamHack Open Tours, Valencia, and Sevilla.
