The inaugural season of the Flashpoint CS:GO league has come to an end, crowning MAD Lions as its champion. The Danish squad took down MIBR in the Grand Final, completing an unlikely comeback on the last map to close the series. MAD Lions take home the $500,000 grand prize.
MAD Lions kicked off their Flashpoint season in Group A, topping the group after taking only one loss to HAVU. Moving on to Phase 2, MAD Lions were placed with FunPlus Phoenix, c0ntact, and Chaos. The Danes topped their group again, this time taking no losses.
Top group placings earned the team a spot in the play-offs upper bracket, where they eased past FunPlus Phoenix and Cloud9 to make the upper bracket final. Facing MIBR, MAD Lions found a win on Mirage before falling 1-2 to their Brazilian opponents. Once in the lower bracket, MAD Lions managed a clean sweep win over HAVU to advance to the Grand Final.
Mirage, the opening map of the Final, went to MIBR, thanks in part to Fernando “fer” Alvarenga’s 30 kills. The series then went to Inferno, where MAD Lions evened up the scoreline with a 16-13 win. Train stood as the final map, and MIBR looked sure to take home the trophy after a 12-3 half in their favor. MAD Lions rallied for a comeback in the second half, winning the map 16-13 and the series 2-1.
MAD Lions will next compete in DreamHack Masters Spring, and MIBR will next play in ESL One: Road to Rio.
