Like Scott McLaughlin, Verstappen is well versed in simulation driving. He’s regularly seen on iRacing, though Supercars aren’t usually his choice of car. But among all the coronavirus chaos, Formula 1 has been suspended. Thus, Verstappen took the opportunity to compete in the Australian Supercars. He’s a very accomplished driver. At the age of 18 he became the youngest F1 race winner in 2016. Whilst he’s more accustomed to open wheels, Verstappen is looking forward to the competition:

I’m looking forward to the race. It’s going to be a challenge as it’s not a car I’ve driven a lot on the sim, but they are pretty cool to watch in real life. We always race with Supercars in Melbourne, so it’s going to be interesting to see how I get on against all the regular drivers… I’m looking forward to racing alongside my mate Shane, or Pastor, as I call him – he’s a top shunter on the sim!

Aussies excited to see Max in action

Shane van Gisbergen (SVG) is regularly known throughout the sim racing community and by Verstappen himself. Both Red Bull drivers (SVG racing for Supercars and Verstappen for F1) compete together in iRacing. SVG missed out on a podium last week, but he’ll be looking for one tonight. He also expects Verstappen to put on a good show, saying, “It’s awesome that a driver of Max’s calibre will be on the grid to take us on in a Red Bull Supercar. He’s fast and he knows these tracks well, so I expect to see him at the front.”

Verstappen will be looking to defeat last week’s winners Scott McLaughlin (race winner 1 and 3) and Jack Le Brocq (race winner 2). Like last week, fans will be able to watch all the action on Twitch, Kayo, and Sky Sports (NZ). As of this week, the series has gone further into the world. Spectators will be able to tune in via Fox Sports and Red Bull TV.
