Origen won't exist anymore: the LEC team rebrands to Astralis

Early this morning, some very big news was announced for those who love competitive League of Legends: Origen, one of the biggest and most legendary European organizations, is dead.

The club, that was founded by the famous Spanish mid laner Enrique “xPeke” Cedeño back in 2014, came back to the LEC last year thanks to RFRSH, an organization that also owns CS:GO, legendary team, Astralis. But their adventures in the biggest European competition were mediocre at first and a complete disaster later.

Maybe that is why Astralis has made this new announcement: the League of Legends team will be rebranded to Astralis in order to work “the Astralis way”.

A NEW ERA BEGINS.

With the video above and a communicate posted on their official website, Astralis made clear that they want a unique brand for all their teams and activities, which means that the Origen brand will no longer exist.

There were many doubts about the future of the Players and Coaching Staff of Origen after the worst season in their history, but we still have no clue about that. Actually, the communicate brings new names to be the Coaching Staff:

  • New Head Coach: Baltat “AoD” Alin-Ciprian.
  • New Assistant Coach: Bjørn-Vegar “iHansen” Hansen.
  • New Performance Manager: Lars Robl.

It seems like André “Guilhoto” Guilhoto will stay in the company, though his role is yet to be determined, the communicate says. At the same time, both Martin “Deficio” Lynge and “xPeke” will be stepping back (“xPeke is still going to be around as a shareholder”).

Not a word has been said about the future of Origen’s roster, but it is clear that Astralis’ future Players will work in a different way, “while we constantly strengthen our foundation and progress, as a team, and as an organization” – Kasper Hvidt, Director of Sports.

Their goal is clear: “to be a contender for the Worlds title“, but they are in no hurry, and assume it will take time.

To start this path, the team will change and unify their clothes (so prepare your money for new jerseys). From now, we need to know which players will make up the LEC team… who do you think they will be?

Welcome to the #LEC, @astralisgg!
