On Monday, Niantic announced new Sneasel and Team GO Rocket-themed timed research events for Pokémon GO. The Sneasel event will be on Saturday, Jan. 30, from 8:00 am to 10:00 pm local time, and the Team GO Rocket event will go from Jan. 26 at 10:00 am to Feb. 7 at 8:00 pm.
Sneasel Limited Research
The Sneasel limited research event will assign players research tasks to complete. These tasks are similar to other research tasks and involve catching, evolving and powering different Pokémon. Completing these tasks will earn players encounters with Sneasel, with an increased chance for it to be shiny.
Sneasel is an Ice/Dark-type Pokémon from the Johto Region. It evolves into Weavile, which has the same type combination. In Pokémon GO, Weavile is an excellent Ice and Dark-type attacker in Raid Battles. It learns good Fast and Charge moves like Ice Shard, Feint Attack, Foul Play and Avalanche.
Team Rocket Research
Beginning Tuesday, players can complete Team GO Rocket-themed research events. These events will likely involve battling different Team GO Rocket grunts and leaders to earn rewards. Players who complete all these events will encounter a Ho-Oh that knows the Charge Move Earthquake.
Ho-Oh is a Legendary Pokémon from the Johto region. It is a Fire/Flying-type with excellent stats. Earthquake will be an exclusive move to Ho-Oh that should be helpful in Raid Battles and PvP battles. This Legendary Pokémon is already strong as it is, and having a strong Ground-type move will surely only be a good thing.
While both Ho-Oh and Sneasel have been in Pokémon GO for a long time now, this is a fresh opportunity to stock up on more candy or get them if you haven’t yet. If you’re newer to the game or simply haven’t got the chance to get either of these, be sure to check the events out for yourself.
