PUBG MOBILE partners with Sony Xperia

Game developer PUBG Corporation and multinational conglomerate Sony have signed a partnership that will see PUBG MOBILE esports events in 2022 use Sony’s Xperia line of smartphones.

The mobile phones will be supplied to players and teams, with Sony’s Xperia brand becoming the official smartphone partner for PUBG MOBILE Esports’ global tournaments.

Xperia is Sony’s smartphone brand that produces a number of high-end smartphones aimed at enthusiasts in the fields of photography, video recording and gaming. The company did not share any details about the phone models that will be used for PUBG’s tournaments.

James Yang, Director of PUBG MOBILE Global Esports, commented: “The player experience is always of a top priority for PUBG MOBILE Esports so it felt natural and confident to enter a partnership with Sony’s Xperia.

“We look forward to seeing our players showcasing an even stronger performance with their Xperia flagship series at our global tournaments this year.”

The PUBG MOBILE esports ecosystem saw a number of changes for 2022. This includes a new look for the PUBG MOBILE Pro League, new regions in the PUBG Mobile Club Open, as well as changes to the PUBG MOBILE National Championship. The changes are expected to help smaller teams enter the higher echelons of competition and also make the Pro League more competitive.

Tsutomu Hamaguchi, Senior General Manager, Mobile Communications Business Group, Sony Corporation, said: “It is such an honour to be part of PUBG MOBILE’s global events for 2022 and provide Xperia models for its players. The Xperia has been designed to allow players to perform at their best and we look forward to enhancing the PUBG MOBILE Esports competition.”

Esports Insider says: It’s an interesting choice by the PUBG team to go with Sony as the official smartphone partner. The brand is mostly aimed at photographers and videographers, but partnering with a large-scale esports league can provide a lot of brand exposure. This is a deal that might be more important for Sony than for PUBG MOBILE.
