ESL One Thailand Asia division kicked off today in force, with both Southeast Asia favorite teams, TNC Predator and Fnatic delivering surprising performances. However, one of the series ended with an unexpected result.
The day began with TNC completely annihilating Team Adroit in a very one sided 2-0 victory. The crushing performance came mainly from TNC’s carry, Kim “Gabbi” Villafuerte, who in game one dominated the opposition on a Faceless Void. His stunning 12/0/6 finish in game one led to another spotless performance in game two, where he was reserved the last pick to counter Adroit’s Terrorblade. TNC’s choice for Gabi was Arc Warden, on which he managed to run over the opposition to help TNC end the game with 20 to 2 kills and over 30K gold lead.
After TNC’s total domination in the opening series, Fnatic found themselves put to the test by the ESL Thailand Championship 2020 winners, Motivate.Trust Gaming. Game one started with the Thai team dominating the lanig stage, however, Fnatic had their newest addition to the team, Marc “Raven” Fausto on Spectre, focused to fulfill his duty and win the game for the team in the late stages.
Going into the second game, Raven went from the absolute beast in the opening match, to being utterly countered and outplayed by Motivate.Trust Gaming. The Thai representatives outpaced Fnatic with a highly mobile line-up, able to elevate their carry Lifestealer by providing spot on initiation. Raven was unable to survive any of the ganks delivered by an offlane Queen of Pain, support Tiny, plus mid lane Spirit Void and fell behind super-fast, allowing Motivate.Trust to force a decisive game three.
Unfortunately for Fnatic, they couldn’t find redemption in the last game of the series, although they started rather well in the laning stage and on paper they had a superior objective taking draft, with a Dragon Knight and Seven in the frontlines, both buffed by an Ogre Magi. They held the grip on the game for almost its entire duration, but two team wipes achieved by Motivate.Trust past the 30 minute mark spelled disaster for Fnatic.
Day two of the group play will bring another unknown for Fnatic, as they are bound to play against another Trust team, from China this time around. The day, however, will open with a SEA battle between T1 and Neon Esports scheduled to start at 08:00CEST/14:00 PST/23:00 PDT.
