The newest addition to the Warhammer 40k universe games, Darktide has you and three other players entering the massive sprawl of a hive-city to fight chaos monsters of all sorts. This game has a lot to bring you in, from the waves of enemies to the immersive grim-dark universe, there's some great gameplay for all varieties of gamers.
No matter what gets you interested in Darktide, there are plenty of games that fall into the same vein. Whether you want to explore the Warhammer universe further, or you want to feel like a god as you wade through hordes of enemies, there are some great games out there for you to get that same buzz.
10/10 World War Z
A game that takes hordes of enemies to a whole new level. Based on the movie and loosely the book of the same name, World War Z has you and a handful of friends take control of survivors in a zombie apocalypse.
One big change from other zombie games, though, is that the zombies here are quick on their feet. There's no shambling corpses here. Instead, you'll try your best to survive a nearly endless horde of flesh-eating monsters. If you liked the overwhelming feel of Darktide, then this game will take that to the extreme.
9/10 Inquisitor: Martyr
As a powerful psychic warrior and detective of the Imperium of Man, you are charged to fight against the warriors of chaos and horrific alien creatures in this action RPG.
This is a great game if you wanted the setting that Darktide gives you, but with a more RPG-heavy focus and solo type of adventure. With a rather long story full of replayability and some great customization, there is a lot to keep you coming back to this game.
8/10 Deep Rock Galactic
If your pull towards Darktide was the teamwork aspect, but not as much the strain of dying so much, then Deep Rock Galactic will be worth looking into.
You and up to three friends take on the role of dwarven space miners. An interesting concept to be sure. There is combat in this game, but it isn't entirely the focus. Instead, you'll be using the tools you have at your disposal to explore and get the minerals you need to finish your mission.
7/10 Space Marine
If the Warhammer 40k universe was your speed, but not the mortality of your everyday human or ogryn, then Space Marine is a solid choice.
Take control of the Imperium's finest super-human soldiers. As Captain Titus, you will fight off an ork invasion of a Mechanicus forge-world. Killing orks with a wide arrange of powerful weaponry with relative ease is a powerful feeling that may be a bit more relaxing than that of Darktide's cramped and deadly underhive.
6/10 Killing Floor 2
One of the many zombie games on this list, but this one stands out quite a bit from the others. For one, this game doesn't take itself too seriously, which may be a great change of tone from the grim-dark universe Darktide is set in.
Since its launch, this game had been bulked up with a series of DLC that adds even more fun for you and your fellow players. Altogether, there is a great amount of variety in weapons, characters, and monsters to fight that will keep you coming back for more.
5/10 GTFO
If you like Darktide but want an even more tense option then GTFO is something you need to check out. With a more horror focused approach to the survival FPS genre, GTFO is a challenging but fun game to try out.
It has pacing down great, which is impressive from an indie game developer. But you'll often find yourself in dark and creepy halls just to be suddenly overwhelmed by horrendous creatures that will have you screaming into your mic.
4/10 Space Hulk: Deathwing
Space Hulk: Deathwing is another 40k game where you take control of hyper-deadly space marines. You and your squad of terminator armor clad marines will enter a mass of crashed spaceships called a space hulk and fight off hungry aliens known as the Tyranids.
There is a wide variety of customization and weaponry to bring into the dark halls of the space hulk. There are some obvious similarities between this and Darktide, but in Deathwing you definitely pack more of a punch.
3/10 Back 4 Blood
A more recent addition compared to most of the games on this list. Back 4 Blood is the spiritual successor to the Left 4 Dead series.
There are definite similarities between this game and Darktide, especially where gameplay is concerned. There are plenty of times when you'll find yourself surrounded by cannon fodder enemies or loading bullet after bullet into a mini boss. The storyline too is pretty decent to hop in to for extra entertainment value.
2/10 Left 4 Dead 2
A well-known name in and out of the zombie genre, and for good reason. Left 4 Dead 2 took the frantic running and gunning from the first game and made a science out of it.
There are so many tense situations to fight your way out of. Combine that with a good amount of weapons, some weird zombies, and pretty funny dialogue, and you have a game that sticks in your mind from long after you play it. L4D2 and Darktide have a lot in common both at the surface and deeper down.
1/10 Vermintide 2
Vermintide 2 is the closest game to Darktide both in form and function. Instead of the dark future of Warhammer 40k, the setting is in the old world of Warhammer fantasy.
Here, you must fight off horrific rat-men called the Skaven, as well as mutant chaos knights and various other monsters you may run across as you try to save the human empire from destruction. If you fell in love with Darktide, this is its successor in many ways.
