Asymmetrical multiplayer has become a popular divergent from the traditional ways people battled in video games like in Halo or Call of Duty. It features groups of players, often two, with different goals that oppose one another. We often see people needing to complete an objective while the other team tries to stop them.
Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed layers the theme of the supernatural comedy film series to make it a silly, fun time where you catch ghosts or become one. While it has single player capabilities, its main focus is to play against other people. You're either busting ghosts or haunting the Ghostbusters. Whether you're a long-time fan of asymmetrical multiplayers or new to it, there are plenty of games to scratch that itch.
7/7 Midnight Ghost Hunt
There may not be a closer game to Spirits Unleashed than Midnight Ghost Hunt. It takes the idea of Prop Hunt and gives it a spooky twist with the lightheartedness of Ghostbusters. It works well for fans of Prop Hunt or the film series.
Two teams are put against one another. Hunters use gadgets and weapons to find ghosts hiding in plain sight. Meanwhile, ghosts must become objects within the map to hide. When midnight strikes, the tables turn as the humans must survive until time runs out or be killed by the spirits.
6/7 Dead By Daylight
Turn up the spookiness and gore with Dead by Daylight. With some great single player horror games out there, this delivers that fear with other players involved. Survivors will go around the map to find generators to repair to escape while the Killer lurks around to sacrifice them to The Entity.
Horror fans should feel in heaven with the Killer roster. Behaviour Interactive crafted nightmarish murderers with special abilities that deserve the big screen treatment. On the other side, there are crossovers with classic horror movie killers like Ghostface and Michael Myers.
5/7 Friday The 13th: The Game
The now-deceased Friday the 13th game had its moment in the sun. With dead servers, it is only playable in private matches, which may be worth it for some nightly scares with a group of friends who want to slash or get slashed by one of horror's most iconic villains.
The scenario puts campers across the map while Jason looks to butcher them. There are various ways to escape, from calling the police to fixing a car to driving away. Even if you see the light at the end of the tunnel, your end might be a bloody one.
4/7 Among Us
While you're suspicious of where the ghosts are in Spirits Unleashed, you will have other suspicions in Among Us. Complete tasks on a spaceship or base while someone on your crew is an Imposter.
The gameplay is simple as you do these basic tasks. The real game is communication, either in chat or on the mic. Lie your way through your killings or place blame onto others. Whether you are guilty or not, there are plenty of strategies to ensure you either find the imposter or eliminate everyone around you.
3/7 Spy Party
Finding someone to play multiplayer games with is sometimes difficult, particularly if you only like playing with friends. Spy Party makes that easy as it pits two players against one another in an intense game of Guess Who?
One person is an assassin; the other is the target. The target blends in at a scene to complete a series of tasks. Meanwhile, there is a sniper across the street who must figure out who the player is and take them out without killing anyone else.
2/7 Ghostbusters: The Video Game
It might not be an asymmetrical online game, but Ghostbusters: The Video Game gives you that narrative experience in the world. With the remastered version, you can get a higher-resolution version of this fun story with Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, and Ernie Hudson.
The original game had multiplayer. Initially, the remastered edition was supposed to as well, but those plans were revoked. Still, if you are a big fan of the series and want an original story, then this one's for you.
1/7 Deceit
Deceit combines elements of Among Us and Dead by Daylight as a scary, suspicion-filled experience, where two people in a group of five are infected. Try to survive by completing your tasks or die trying. If you're the infected, you need to isolate your prey to ward off anyone's skepticism of your identity.
Like Among Us, one person is not who they seem, and is trying to stop the others. With its focus on communication, you will strain the relationships you have with your crew. Anyone can be a liar trying to kill you, so you cannot trust anyone too much. Even if you are the one killing, you need to be on top of pointing people in the other direction, so they stay off your scent.
