Get ready for more Sam Stone! A new installment in the Serious Sam series appears to be in the works and could be arriving a lot sooner than you might expect. In fact, a recent tease from the game’s publisher suggests that the new game will be announced next week and will arrive before the month is out.
Serious Sam publisher Devolver sent a tweet out Friday night posing the question “what if a new Serious Sam game was being announced next week and released this month?” The tweet was accompanied by a short video that will look familiar to those keeping up with the series. It shows the titular hero speedboating through icy waters filled with abandoned ships and an accompanying voiceover proclaiming “man, it’s cold, but nothing warms me up like kicking ass!” This video was tweeted out last month by developer Croteam with no explanation or fanfare and was retweeted by the official Serious Sam account.
Many believe the video is a hint at some upcoming DLC for Serious Sam 4, the most recent installment in the serious, but it seems it was a clue to the next full game. It is unclear if the concept of Sam Stone speeding through icy waters and kicking butt in a colder climate began as DLC and was fleshed out for a sequel.
The most recent installment in the series emerged onto the scene back in September of 2020 to some not-so-great reviews. The sequel, which was actually a prequel, was criticized for its generic level designs and a rushed quality that really let down the title’s potential to be a great action game. Despite the negative critical response to the game, the user reviews over on Steam are overall positive with players enjoying the simplicity of shooting-up thousands of alien invaders.
With an announcement planned for sometime this week, more news on this next Serious Sam adventure should be coming soon. Although, Croteam does enjoy doing things with no announcement or warning as they did with the addition of Serious Sam 4 to Game Pass and next-gen consoles.
