Are you getting a bit tired of all the dour, violent video games? Do you like cute, cuddly indies? Are you maybe a little bit gay? If you answered yes to any of these questions then good news, there's a new Wholesome Direct coming June 11 to inject some pastel-coloured fun into your life.
The team at Wholesome Games, the curators of the Wholesome Direct announced the upcoming showcase on Twitter. The purpose of this direct is to show off a broad selection of games being worked on in the wholesome community. These are games that eschew violence in favour of more diplomatic approaches.
This new direct promises "New game reveals, exclusive footage, and even games that will launch DURING the show!" Also, nearly 100 indie games will be shown, so there's sure to be something for everyone.
Wholesome Games is a community dedicated to sharing video games that lift people up and offer a more cosy aesthetic to the standard triple-A FPS games we see a lot of. That doesn't mean these games are for kids or that they shy away from serious topics, just that they try and do so with more nuanced solutions than shooting everybody.
The demand for games like this has been increasing steadily over time and have become much more mainstream recently, too. E3 2021 had way fewer violent video games on display than usual, and a third of its and the Summer Game Fest's titles shown were non-violent.
If you just can't wait for June to get your hands on some wholesome games, check out all of the games showcased in last year's Wholesome Direct. You can also take a look at our list of games that are mum appropriate.
