During your quest in Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope to stop Cursa and cleanse the planets of Darkmess, you’ll encounter many enemies on the field of battle. In the turn-based combat system, each character in your party gets two actions per turn. For one of your actions, you might go with a special item to help you out in defeating your foes.
These special items are a mix of Mario and Rabbid references, a great way to include Easter eggs in the crossover game. You can purchase them from the stores in each world, but be careful about what you invest your well-earned coins in, as some items are more useful than others.
7/7 Cooldown Clock
The Cooldown Clock is great in theory but not practically all that useful. The item resets any cooldowns you might have for your Sparks or Techniques, which reset naturally after a certain number of turns. The big issue with the Cooldown Clock is that it counts as one of your two actions, so you still may have to wait until your next turn to use a Spark or your Technique unless you choose not to fire your weapon.
There may be moments in battles where this is useful, such as using a Spark with a wider range than your weapon can reach. For the most part, it’s better to skip the Cooldown Clock and wait for your moves to reset on their own.
6/7 Immunity Charm
Immunity Charm is another item that seems too good to be true. The item’s function is to protect you from Super Effects, like Ooze, for three turns. It doesn’t remove any current Super Effects you might have, though. You’ll need Cleansing Elixir for that.
Immunity Charm also doesn’t shield you from damage, even if it’s caused by a Super Effect attack. Enemies can still lock your abilities with Darkmess goo, preventing you from using a Spark or attacking, which is the negative effect that causes the most annoyance in battle. Immunity Charm isn’t as useful as it could be.
5/7 POW Block
The POW Block accomplishes essentially the same function as it does in the Mario universe: blows stuff up. This item is vital for getting an extra hit in when you don’t have any other options, such as when you’ve already fired on an enemy.
It’s also a great item to use when enemies start to surround you, as it hits a wide area and is one of the few attacks that affect multiple enemies simultaneously. The only downside: it also breaks up barriers, so it could destroy any cover you have and leave you out in the open for other enemies’ long-range attacks.
4/7 Multi Dash
Another item that lets you get an extra hit or two in, Multi Dash gives you an extra two Dashes to use during your turn. Dashes are a useful feature of battles, as it’s a way to get free attacks on enemies or hit several enemies should they be standing in a row, as Goombas often do.
This item comes in handy when you’re close to an enemy whose health is already depleted. If you’ve already used up your Dash in a turn, you can use Multi Dash to let you finish off that nearby enemy quickly before firing your weapon on a foe that’s further away.
3/7 Move Boost
Part of the game’s battlefield strategy includes navigating a limited area of movement. Sometimes, it’s incredibly frustrating to be just a few steps away from accessing the next shelter or being able to Dash an enemy. That’s where Move Boost comes in handy. This item resets your range of movement from wherever you’re standing.
The other neat aspect of Move Boost: it lets you move even after firing your weapon, which locks you in place. So, if you fired on an enemy but didn’t take cover, you can remedy that with Move Boost.
2/7 Cleansing Elixir
Cleansing Elixir is by far the better option for cleaning up Super Effect messes. Though it can’t prevent Super Effects from initially infecting you, it does have one huge advantage over Immunity Charm: it can remove Darkmess from locking you out of using weapons or Sparks.
Of course, if enemies locked your access to Items with Darkmess, you are out of luck. Still, it is the better option for dealing with enemies’ Super Effect attacks, so stock up on Cleansing Elixir, especially as you near the end of the main quest. You’re going to need it!
1/7 Mushrooms
The iconic Super Mushroom from Mario is the best special item in the game, yet it does such a simple task: healing. There are four different versions of the Super Mushroom, which you unlock as you progress through the game. Each heals a different percentage of your overall health: the basic Super Mushroom heals 30 percent, the Super Mushroom Bag heals 50 percent, the Super Mushroom Chest heals 70 percent, and the rare Super Mushroom Chest DX heals 100 percent of your health. The DX Chest isn’t always available in the store, but the 70 percent healing often works just as well.
Mushrooms are vital to have in large amounts, especially if you don’t have space for Sparks like Regenesis, who naturally restore health, or if you don’t have Rabbid Peach in your party. Even if you have a healing Spark and Rabbid Peach, Mushrooms are important to have, just in case other party members are outside those characters’ healing ranges.
