Popular Twitch streamer Amouranth has revealed some of the security measures she has to take to combat abusers and stalkers. In a recent interview, Amouranth, real name Kaitlyn Siragusa, says that she has bought security cameras, guns, and even a guard dog due to the harassment she receives from both her critics and obsessive fans alike.
This comes a month after it was reported that one of Amouranth's stalkers had been arrested. Livestreaming the entire event, the stalker reportedly attempted to break into Siragusa's house, peering through her window when he couldn't gain entry.
Siragusa spoke about this event in an interview with the New York Times, detailing the abuse she receives as a prominent female streamer on Twitch. Spekaing to reporters, she explains that she now has guns, security cameras, and even a Caucasian shepherd guard dog called Bear as defensive measures.
"I don’t know what else to do at this point, besides build a moat with crocodiles", Siragusa explains. “I guess you do get used to it — it comes with the territory, [but] it shouldn’t.”
According to Siragusa, police failed to adequately respond to the stalker harassing her at her home. They reportedly took 33 minutes to arrive at her address, and were initially dismissive of Siragusa when she called.
However, in the interview, she does say that police have started to take action against another form of abuse she receives: swatting. Now, whenever she is swatted, authorities apparently check her Twitch stream first, rather than force entry into her home.
The stalker from June, a man from Estonia, claimed to have sold all of his possessions in order to harass Siragusa. He says he sold his "house, car, and cat" to travel to the United States, but will now likely be sent back to Estonia following his arrest.
