Each planet in Astroneer will contain a variety of flora, with many of these plants dealing deadly attacks. Although there are no monsters or enemies to fight in the game, you will need to survive nature. If you are moving carelessly, the planet's flora can quickly kill you.
In this guide, we are going to take a look at every type of flora that can be found in Astroneer, as well as where you can find them. We are going to talk about flora in two main groups; defensive and offensive. First, let's take a look at what defensive types of flora you can find.
Defensive Flora
Defensive flora are types of plants that only deal damage when you interact with the plant or are too close. Most of these florae only do a small amount of damage, but you should still be cautious. If you are standing too close, or near several, you can easily die. Below, check out all the defensive flora in the game, as well as what they look like, the type of damage they deal, and where you can find them.

Overall, defensive flora will leave you alone if you don't interact with them. If you do need the seeds of the plants listed above, try to stand at a distance while using your terrain tool. This will ensure that you don't take any damage while disturbing the plant.
Offensive Flora
Offensive flora will deal damage to you, regardless of whether you interact with them or not. Below, you can find every offensive flora, along with its appearance, type of damage, and location.

Miscellanous Flora
You will come across other unnamed flora while exploring the planets. These plants are not unique, and will provide Organic Material when destroyed with the terrain tool.
Researching Seeds
The research chamber allows you to research various items found across the planets. This includes giant pieces of space rock, as well as small seeds for the flora listed above. To make a few bytes, try to place unused seeds in the research chamber. Keep in mind, if seeds are left on the ground too long, they will start to disappear. You will either need to plant, store, or research them.
Mutant Flora Variations
When destroying offensives plants, they may drop mutant seeds. Mutant seeds can be planted, but they will not grow a dangerous version of the plant. For example, if you plant a mutant hissbine seed, the grown plant will not be hostile. Mutant plants will slightly vary in color from the original plant. Additionally, you will be unable to research mutant variations of seeds.
