Astro’s Playroom Developer Working On New Game

Astro’s Playroom developer Team Asobi announced that it is not only expanding but that it is also developing a brand new game.

The announcement of its growth and next game came alongside a brand new logo as well as new social media channels. The team teased that its focus remains on “platformers that deliver that second-to-second joy.” With that, we at least know that whatever comes next will be a similar experience to the last two releases.

The studio was formed in 2012 and has worked on a variety of tech demos to show the capabilities of the PS4, PS5, and PSVR. Its latest works, Astro Bot Rescue Mission and Astro’s Playroom, have given a new mascot to Sony’s console, and it seems as though we’ll see this explored further in whatever new game comes next. The new logo even features its face as the ‘o.’

The platinum trophy for Astro’s Playroom read, “See you in our next adventure.” That “next adventure” appears to be underway to showcase the PlayStation 5’s capabilities once more just as the tech demo turned fully-fledged game did. Although, it could be that Team Asobi is working to create a new VR title for the PSVR2 which features finger-tracking controllers.

After all, the description of its next game states that the team is “exploiting a cool new controller in surprising ways or packing humorous animations in every nook and cranny.” That “cool new controller” could very well be the next PSVR’s own.

At any rate, it seems as though Team Asobi is being given more room to breathe and play around at Sony, somewhat taking over the role that Little Big Planet held for a while.
