The arrival of mutants in the MCU has been teased for quite some time. But now with Ms Marvel and Black Panther 2, it's become a reality. Wakanda Forever actor Tenoch Huerta revealed that his character, Namor, is a mutant.
In a recent interview with Empire Magazine, Huerta revealed that Namor’s mutant origin is the one detail that's picked up directly from the comics. However, in the movie, Namor is the ruler of Talocan, as opposed to the comic book version of him being an Atlantean. The interview also revealed that Namor is marching onto the shores of Wakanda because of T’Challa’s decision to uncover the real identity of his nation to the world. According to Namor, this risks the revelation of the Talocans as well.
As mentioned earlier, it was only a matter of time before the mutants made their way into the MCU. The first direct hint was when we saw Charles Xavier – or Professor X – in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Despite his short-lived cameo (quite literally), it was enough to make us believe that mutants would have a role to play in the forthcoming multiversal war. Another promising hint was dropped in the Ms Marvel TV series where it was revealed that Kamala Khan, a.k.a Ms Marvel, has a certain mutation in her genes. This was cemented further when the original X-Men: The Animated Series theme song played in the background during that reveal.
In other news, Marvel boss Kevin Feige recently mentioned that it was too soon for the studio to recast Chadwick Boseman. “It just felt like it was much too soon to recast. Stan Lee always said that Marvel represents the world outside your window” Feige explained. Additionally, he also mentioned how the world is still recovering from Boseman's death, which is why Marvel decided to take a different route.
The mantle of Black Panther will be taken up by a different character in the movie, which remains a mystery. However, several leaks point toward Shuri being the next Protector of Wakanda.
