Bungie Extends Contest Mode For Vow Of The Disciple Following Destiny 2 Server Issues

Bungie just announced that it will be extending Contest Mode in Destiny 2 until March 7, 2022 on account of server issues which prevented players from connecting to the game. This represents one of the few times in recent memory that Bungie has made such a move.

“Contest Mode has been extended an additional 24 hours,” Bungie said in a statement on Twitter. “This is to give those experiencing connection issues in the Vow of the Disciple raid a chance to obtain The Cleaver emblem.” The company added that “players who complete the raid during the extension will be awarded the emblem at a later date. More information will be provided in a future This Week at Bungie on the exact date of distribution.”

While this might be welcome news to some, others have been criticizing the measure. The most liked replies to the tweet include “should be four hours not 24” and “I agree with this, but it should only be six hours since that’s how long it was hindering people.” Many shared stories which help to explain their disappointment. “This is extremely uncool,” a commenter said. “I planned a whole day well in advance to do the normal raid with my friends because Contest Mode is too hard for us. Now we have to cancel and this was hard to schedule. Really not happy with this!”

This comes in the wake of numerous problems following the release of the latest expansion for Destiny 2. While critics have been giving rave reviews to The Witch Queen, the expansion has been facing issues related to the crafting system in particular. Players for example have been complaining about the drop rates for Deepsight Resonate weapons and Ascendant Alloys, calling them so low that it sometimes takes days of grinding to unlock Enhanced traits and even longer to make Exotic Glaives. Bungie has promised that a future patch will be fixing these problems.
