Call Of Duty: Vanguard adds Krampus and elves for free multiplayer weekend

The Christmas event for Call Of Duty: Vanguard and Warzone sees the addition of Krampus, a team of elves, and a lot of seasonal cosmetics.

There’s been plenty of talk about how this year’s Call Of Duty has been the lowest seller in over a decade but that hasn’t stopped it from being the number one seller in the US during November and the second biggest game of the year – behind only Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War.

Even so, Activision are clearly worried about its performance and so they’re planning yet another free multiplayer weekend, this one set to take place between Thursday, December 16 and 21.

It’s part of a Christmas event called Festive Fervor which will also include limited time mode and special items for both Vanguard and Warzone, including Krampus and ‘Elf Team Six’.

In Vanguard, Krampus will attack whoever has the lowest objective score in a multiplayer match but it’s you who have to hunt down Elf Team Six – if you get them all then you’ll be rewarded with a special gift.

According to the Call Of Duty blog, there will also be more typical challenges, with 13 new items to unlock including an epic LMG blueprint for completing all six challenges in either game.

Armageddon mode will also be added during the period, although it’s really just a renamed Drop Zone. As such, you’ll have to fight for control of a marked area on the map where care packages will begin to drop.

The one difference with previous version of Drop Zone is that you only score points through kills, with bonus points if you do so while using a Killstreak.

Warzone’s new Pacific island map will also get a Christmas makeover with lots of snow, and a version of Krampus who attacks players at random.

All of this stands in contrast to Battlefield 2042’s attempts at adding Christmas themed features, where something as simple as a Father Christmas outfit for one of the specialists was roundly criticised by fans as being too unrealistic.
