CD Projekt pay just £1.4 million to get out of Cyberpunk 2077 investor lawsuit

After all the talk of angry investors and multiple lawsuits, CD Projekt has ended up settling out of court for a surprisingly small amount.

The controversy over Activision Blizzard’s toxic work conditions might yet be the downfall of the company but so far the only thing that’s happened, apart from a bunch of staff leaving, is a £13 million payout that amounted to just 0.2% of the company’s yearly revenue.

They have other lawsuits to settle beyond that but as another example of what happens when you have good lawyers, CD Projekt has ended up paying a mere £1.39 million to placate investors angry at the performance of Cyberpunk 2077.

Originally, a number of separate lawsuits were filed by various investors, who claimed they’d been lied to about the quality and status of Cyberpunk 2077, which released to a disastrous reception last Christmas.

Over time, investors began combining the various lawsuits into one complaint, which CD Projekt initially implied they would fight in court.

In reality though they’ve just settled out of court for what seems a peculiar small amount of money, given the drop in share price caused by Cyberpunk 2077’s launch caused CD Projekt alone to lose around £2.4 billion.

Not only does the payout draw a line under the whole issue but it specifically states that CD Projekt does not accept any admission of responsibility. So as far as they’re concerned they still haven’t done anything wrong.

It’s not as if any of this would’ve done anything for ordinary gamers but it certainly makes speculation last year of CD Projekt going under, or being snapped up on the cheap by a larger publisher, seem very premature.
