Herschel ‘Guy’ Beahm, also known as Dr Disrespect in the streaming world, has announced the launch of his own Triple-A studio ‘Midnight Society’. He is joined by game industry veterans like Robert Bowling and Quinn DelHoyo who previously worked on Halo and Call of Duty.
This announcement isn't a surprise as Beahm already made his intentions known about opening his own studio. He even posted a job listing for a studio head, and it looks like it has become a reality with Bowling filling that position.
Beahm’s aims to take a different approach from the mainstream Triple-A studios with a unique game development and publishing model (as reported by IGN). Bowling explained “Our players are the lifeblood of our games, and so often games get designed in a bubble, with few touchpoints for the players to help shape the final product before it’s too late. Our approach is completely open and focused on building experiences that evolve with our players.
“My vision is to make games that defy the one-and-done publishing model and reward all those fans and influencers who make them a success. I’m so excited to show everyone what we have planned.” Beahm added. As of now, Midnight Society is working on a PvP multiplayer game using Unreal Engine 5 and is hiring for various roles across the board.
This venture seems perfect for Beahm considering he is a former developer himself. Before becoming a full-time streamer, he used to work as a level designer for Sledgehammer Games and has developed various multiplayer maps for Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare. Given his expertise in the field, combined with the experience of Bowling and DelHoyo, this venture is definitely something to look forward to.
Beahm had a turbulent year from 2020-2021. He was permanently banned from Twitch in June 2020 and started streaming on YouTube in August 2020. Recently, he announced that he announced that he found the reason behind his ban and is planning to sue Twitch.
Beahm has always been very vocal in criticizing and giving feedback on first-person shooters since that is his go-to genre for streaming. This makes his first project one to watch out for as he has the opportunity to show exactly how he expects a game to be.
