It’s been a while since we last heard from the upcoming Dungeons & Dragons film, Honor Among Thieves. Last year’s Comic-Con introduced us to all the characters and several famous D&D locations, including Waterdeep, Neverwinter, Icewind Dale, and the Underdark, with flashes of action all set to Led Zepplin’s Whole Lotta Love. Zeppelin returns in the latest trailer, but this time there’s even more banter between each member of this heroic quintet.
The trailer starts with Chris Pine and Michelle Rodriguez moments away from being beheaded. Rodriguez manages to escape while Pine desperately rubs his bound hands on a rock stair–presumably because he failed his dexterity check. That’s not something you’d see from most bards, but I’m getting the impression that Pine isn’t going to be like most bards.
We’re next reminded of how Pine and the gang stole an ancient artifact that empowered a group of red wizards to unleash an even more ancient evil that threatens to destroy the world using an army of the undead. It’s not just the undead that they have at their disposal, as the chief red wizard animates a stone statue to fight for her.
At some point, our merry band of adventurers is captured to fight in Hugh Grant’s forge, where they’ll meet a giant gelatinous cube and a manticore within its ever-changing walls. A trip to an active volcano eventually leads them to a trap (which Justice Smith accidentally activates) and an extremely well-fed red dragon.
There are still plenty of mysteries yet to be answered in Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, but we’ll likely have to wait until the movie releases in theaters only on March 31 to find out more. Expect Led Zepplin to continue their musical backing.
The success of Honor Among Thieves is in doubt following controversial moves made by Dungeons & Dragons publisher Wizards of the Coast. Changes to the tabletop games Open Gaming License has angered the community, with an online protest movement leading to cancelled D&D Beyond subscriptions. There's a growing call to boycott Honor Among Thieves, which could potentially eliminate the movie's core audience.
