The makers of Dark Souls have finally unveiled their newest game, with From Software’s Elden Ring looking every bit as good as everyone hoped.
It seemed a long shot right up until it happened, but not only has FromSoftware released the first gameplay trailer for Elden Ring but they’ve set a release date too, for January 21, 2022.
The game will be released on both last and current gen consoles, so Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC.
The trailer doesn’t explain much, as you’d expect of From, but it clearly shows the open world, horseback riding and combat, and some absolutely gorgeous visual design.
What can be made out about the plot seems very similar to Dark Souls, but instead of Hollows you have the Tarnished, with the game’s fantasy realm suffering from a curse that seems to be turning everyone into… monsters of some sort.
It’s not the plot details that are important in Soulsborne games though but the environmental storytelling and with Game of Thrones’ George R. R. Martin also helping out that should be stronger than ever in Elden Ring.
The trailer premiered as part of Summer Games Fest, but publisher Bandai Namco also has a dedicated conference due on Tuesday – the last big one of E3 2021.
If there’s to be any more information revealed this month it will be there, although we still might not learn that much more. Not that fans will need any more convincing at this point.
