Frodo Baggins himself has turned out to be a keen Animal Crossing: New Horizons player, after taking a trip to a fan’s island to sell his turnips.
Since Animal Crossing: New Horizons is now officially the biggest thing ever that means that, simply by the law of averages, there must be a lot of celebrities playing it – after all they’re stuck inside just like everyone else.
Brie Larson is perhaps the most high-profile fan but the appearance of Elijah ‘Frodo’ Wood in a random game was a lot more low-key.
It started when a player named jessa advertised that her island store was selling turnips (an import in-game commodity that works like buying shares) for 599 bells, an almost unheard of figure that’s at least five times the norm.
Some Animal Crossing players can act like hoodlums when visiting someone else’s island, stealing everything that’s not tied down, but apparently Wood was the perfect gentleman and made sure to ask before taking jessa’s fruit.
He even favourited jessa’s tweet about his visit after he left.
Elijah Wood has always been known as a keen gamer and we learnt that first-hand when we interviewed him for First World War game 11-11: Memories Retold a couple of years ago.
He was very nice in that too, where he talked about his part in Broken Age, his role in the unveiling of the Xbox 360, and VR game Transference, which his own production company helped to make.
