PS4 and PS5 owners will get to check out a Call Of Duty: Vanguard alpha very soon, with an open beta to follow in September.
Now that Call Of Duty: Vanguard has been officially announced, Activision and Sledgehammer Games are ready to roll out a public demo for players to try out. Although in this case, it’s only for PlayStation owners.
According to the announcement blog post, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 owners will be able to take part in an exclusive alpha test from August 27 to August 29.
Preloading is already available, and the alpha can be accessed through the main menu for Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare, Call Of Duty: Warzone, or Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War once it’s downloaded.
As for what the alpha entails, you’ll get to play Vanguard’s new multiplayer mode Champion Hill. Teams of two or three compete in a round-robin deathmatch tournament where the goal is to simply be the last squad standing.
‘While also providing you with a ton of fun this weekend, the Call of Duty: Vanguard PlayStation Alpha will provide our developers feedback on a global scale to help them tune and polish the game’s multiplayer prior to its upcoming beta and launch,’ reads the blog post.
There are no plans to bring the alpha to other platforms, although the multiplayer beta is scheduled for September, with a worldwide multiplayer reveal happening on September 7.
The beta will be held over two weekends. The first runs from September 10 to September 13 while the second runs from September 16 to September 20. However, that first one will only be available to PlayStation owners that pre-order Vanguard.
And while the second weekend will be open to all PlayStation owners, everybody else must pre-order a copy to access the first two days. It will only become an open beta for everyone from September 18 to September 20.
As a reminder, Activision is currently facing a lawsuit for fostering a toxic workplace culture, with numerous allegations of sexual harassment and other discriminatory practices towards women employees.
In the wake of this discrimination lawsuit, Activision appears to be trying to distance itself from Call Of Duty: Vanguard, omitting its logo entirely from the game’s announcement trailer.
Call Of Duty: Vanguard releases on November 5 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC.
