Fall Guys Hits 20 Million Players Two Days After Going Free-To-Play

If you were wondering why Fall Guys might have been a little hard to access this week after it hit new platforms and went free-to-play, this might explain it. Just 48 hours after the game was made free for everyone on more platforms, the relaunched battle royal game hit a massive 20 million players.

That's according to the Fall Guys Twitter account that revealed the good news on Saturday. “We reached an incredible 20 million players in the first 48 hours of Free For All,” Fall Guys shared on social media, thanking everyone for making the next chapter in the game's history such a successful one right off the bat.

Fall Guys was so popular when it went free-to-play and landed on Xbox and Nintendo Switch this past Tuesday, actually getting into a match proved difficult. Mediatonic evidently worked around the clock on fixing its servers and doing everything possible to prepare them for the heavy load. As was the case when Fall Guys first launched, the studio simply didn't appear to be prepared for just how popular it would be. Hence its surprise at hitting 20 million players so soon.

Fall Guys wasn't free for all when it first launched in 2020, but it was a PS Plus freebie for the first month. By the end of that month, it had become the most downloaded game in PS Plus history, a record it presumably still holds. Exactly how many people downloaded the game that summer, between PlayStation and PC, remains unclear. Suffice to say, 20 million will have been a number unfamiliar to the Fall Guys devs, and it'll be interesting to see how much that number grows in the coming days and weeks.

The other big change to Fall Guys this week is its move from Steam to the Epic Games Store. While you can no longer download Fall Guys on the former, those who own it on Steam will continue to receive support. There's also a Halo crossover coming to celebrate its arrival on Xbox.
