Battlefield 2042 has gotten off to a pretty strong start on PC with thousands of concurrent players even despite briefly joining the list of Steam's worst-rated games ever. However, there are some other recent titles that have been overshadowing the latest game from DICE — the incredibly popular Farming Simulator for example.
Giants Software launched Farming Simulator 2022 on November 22, 2021 and the game has been making quite the stir ever since. Not only has the non-violent simulator been gathering "very positive" user reviews on Steam from day one, but the slow and meditative game has also been attracting more concurrent players during its first week than Battlefield 2042.
According to the SteamDB tracker, Farming Simulator 2022 ended up slightly more popular on the platform than Battlefield 2042, outpacing the futuristic shooter by a few hundred players. As seen in the direct stats comparison, the latest Farming Simulator peaked at 105,636 concurrent players on November 28. Battlefield 2042 peaked at only 105,397.
It is interesting to note that Battlefield 2042's average player count has been steadily declining since launch while Farming Simulator 2022's audience has in fact been growing.
Farming Simulator 2022 is available on PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. Battlefield 2042 is available on Steam and Origin.
As for the sales figures, Farming Simulator 2022 left Battlefield 2042 behind last week on the Steam top-sellers list, outselling such popular games as Red Dead Redemption 2 and Cyberpunk 2077 as well. The latter received "very positive" reviews from newcomers to the game.
While EA has promised to fix Battlefield 2042's problems with more patches, Farming Simulator 2022 has gotten off to a very strong start, cementing its position as a popular niche game. The new entry might even surpass its predecessor, Farming Simulator 2019, in terms of overall sales. The latter sold well over two million copies on PC.
