Fear Effect Reinvented Trailer Reveals It’s "Coming Sooner Than You Think"

Fear Effect has the status somewhat of a cult classic. Released on the original PlayStation, the game came out in the year 2000 and was a pioneer in many ways. It was one of the first titles to feature cel-shaded graphics, focused on story and cinematics in an FMV-style way, and in the follow-up Fear Effect 2: Retro Helix, which was a prequel, it was notable for one of the first lesbian relationships depicted in video games. Fear Effect Reinvented is a remake of the PS1 2000 game.

Announced all the way back in August 2017, the remake was scheduled for the Nintendo Switch. Now, a teaser trailer has confirmed it's "coming sooner than you think", which is good since we've been waiting this long already. As you'd expect the remake harkens to the PS1 title while bringing it up more to modern standards, since the original game would be easily old enough to buy alcohol in the US.

"Fear Effect Reinvented is an action adventure, true-to-the-original remake of the first game from the classic Fear Effect franchise—refreshed with improved graphics and controls," the official description reads. Here's a refresher on the story, which was praised at the time for its tight script: "Wi-Ming Lam, the daughter of a Hong Kong Triad boss, has been kidnapped. Take the roles of the mercenary trio: Hana, Glas, and Deke, and try to find the missing girl."

Players can expect revamped graphics, gameplay, and controls, with the latter two quite welcome since the gameplay and controls were somewhat lacklustre in the original. The original story has been expanded into three separate campaigns, while the gameplay is a mix of a "cover-based battle system" and survival horror elements.

Developed by Sushee and published by Forever Entertainment, Fear Effect Reinvented will be arriving on Nintendo Switch and other platforms "sooner than you think" as the trailer says, although this is still not a release window but perhaps we'll have a launch date sooner than we thought too. Meanwhile, have a watch of the teaser trailer above.
