FIFA and NHL games to remove Russia confirms EA

Update:

As expected, the leak has turned out to be accurate and the Russian national team and clubs will be removed from all current FIFA and NHL titles.

‘EA Sports stands in solidarity with the Ukrainian people and like so many voices across the world of football, calls for peace and an end to the invasion of Ukraine’, reads the official tweet.

‘In line with our partners at FIFA and UEFA, EA Sports has initiated processes to remove the Russian national team and all Russian clubs from EA Sports FIFA products including: FIFA 22, FIFA Mobile, and FIFA Online. We’re also actively evaluating related changes to other areas of our games.’

The NHL Twitter account adds that all Russian and Belarusian national and club team will be removed from NHL 22 within the ‘coming weeks’.

There doesn’t appear to be any changes planned for Madden NFL 22, which is understandable given its less international appeal.

‘It’s a hard situation. I have family back in Russia and it is scary moments, but we can’t do anything’, he told The Athletic.

‘We just hope it going to be end soon and everything is going to be all right. Please, no more war. It doesn’t matter who is in the war – Russia, Ukraine, different countries – I think we live in a world, like, we have to live in peace and a great world.’

FIFA and NHL are not expected to get a new entry until the autumn but if the leak is accurate then EA is likely to remove Russia from the games using an update in the next few days.
