Frozenheim tasks you with taking your plucky band of Norsemen and Norsewomen from mostly impoverished nobodies, and turning them into an unstoppable force – both militaristically and societally. One aspect of the game that helps you achieve one (or both) of those goals is dedicating your people to a particular Clan.
Clans offer powerful abilities that can greatly alter how you play the game. Each clan is focused on a particular element of the game, with some being much more aggressive, whilst others playing the resource game. Overcoming Frozenheim’s challenges requires a degree of understanding as to when to roll out each of its varied Clans.
What Are Clans
Clans are a fancy word for Research Trees. Each Clan essentially unlocks the ability to invest resources into research. What you can research depends on the Clan chosen, with new technologies unlocking as you progress through the game.
Clans are incredibly powerful and can improve everything from combat, to happiness, to production. What Clan you use, and when, is vitally important. In missions with a tighter focus on combat, rolling out the Deer Clan, for example, might not be the best idea.
How To Unlock Clans
You don’t have access to Clans from the get-go. Clans are locked behind the Elder Hall, and the Elder Hall, in turn, is locked behind your Jarl’s Homestead. To unlock the Elder Hall, you need to upgrade your Jarl’s Homestead to level two. Once that is done, you are free to dabble in clans.
Crow Clan
The Crow Clan specialise in exploration and mysticism. They are excellent at scouting, claiming Rune Stones, and taming the wild animals that roam the world. They are also one of, if not the fastest, Clan in the game.
