The Epic Games Store has been giving away free PC games every week–no strings attached–since the storefront launched in late 2018. As of now, we know the program will run until at least the end of 2020. It’s pretty straightforward; every Thursday at 8 AM PT / 11 AM ET, Epic offers one, two, or occasionally even three games completely free of charge. To claim the games, you simply need to register for a free Epic account and enable two-factor authentication, which Epic recently added as a requirement to help users bolster their account security. After registering and claiming your games, they are yours to keep in your digital library forever.

This week’s free game at Epic
From now until June 4 at 8 AM PT / 11 AM ET, Epic users can snag Borderlands: The Handsome Collection. It’s the third week in a row the Epic Games Store has given away a massive AAA hit, as Civilization VI was free last week and Grand Theft Auto V was free earlier this month.
Borderlands: The Handsome Collection features Borderlands 2 and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel. It also comes with every piece of DLC released for both games. The collection scored an 8/10 in GameSpot’s Borderlands: The Handsome Collection review.
“Let’s be clear: You don’t have to be Handsome Jack’s number-one fan to appreciate Borderlands: The Handsome Collection,” critic Cameron Woolsey wrote. But even if you’re not, you will still find an impressive archive, chock full of dozens upon dozens of hours of laughter and exciting combat. Even considering issues presented by Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, The Handsome Collection is still a great compilation, allowing you to witness not only Jack’s tale, but play a major role in shaping the history of Pandora itself, along with its lonely moon. And that is a story that Marcus may gladly tell again someday.”
Next week’s free game at Epic
Epic typically reveals what PC users have to look forward to next week when a new freebie goes live. Once again, that isn’t true this week due to the ongoing Mega Sale. Instead, Epic has teased a fourth “Mystery Game” and started a countdown clock that will tick down until the June 28 8 AM PT / 11 AM ET unlock time. Based on a leaked list that has turned out to be accurate so far, it looks like Ark: Survival Evolved will be free next week. But we’ll have to wait until next week to find out for sure.
