GTA 6 release date is early 2024 at the latest hints Take-Two financial report

Rockstar owner Take-Two may have just given away when they intend to launch GTA 6, and it’s not quite as far off as previously rumoured.

With the next gen version of GTA 5 due out in March it’s obvious that Rockstar isn’t going to announce GTA 6 anytime soon, for fear of taking sales away from their new release.

That makes a reveal any time this year pretty unlikely, not least because most recent rumours have placed the game’s release date as far away as 2025. However, a new rumour, from a cast iron source, suggests the wait for the new sequel isn’t going to be quite that long.

According to Rockstar’s parent company Take-Two, they’re expecting a major spike in revenue in 2024, of the sort that could only come from a GTA 6 sized new release.

The increase could only come from a very high profile release and at this point GTA 6 seems a lot more likely than Red Dead Redemption 3 or a new IP.

Recent rumours have already suggested that GTA 6 will be the only new game Rockstar release all generation, or at least that it’s the only one currently in development.

The new clue from Take-Two was noticed by a number of different analysts and, as pointed out by website Axios, previous financial guidance predicted GTA 5’s launch in exactly the same way.

The financial guidance is for the whole of Take-Two’s 2024 financial year, which runs from April 2023 to March 2024, which means the game could be released at any time during that period (until the inevitable delay anyway).

As an indication of when GTA 6 might be officially announced, GTA 5 was originally unveiled in October 2011, two years prior to its delayed September 2013 launch.

Nowadays it’s more common to announce games closer to their release though, with Red Dead Redemption 2 first being teased in October 2016, for what was originally supposed to be a mid-2017 release – until it got delayed twice to October 2018.

This suggests two things, that a) GTA 6 probably won’t be announced this year but maybe in 2023 and b) it’ll almost certainly be delayed from whatever date it is given.
