The next game from The Evil Within developer Tango Gameworks is Hi-Fi Rush, a third-person rhythm brawler that has an art-style reminiscent of Jet Set Radio.
Xbox just held its first Developer_Direct, giving us a better look at Redfall, Minecraft Legends, The Elder Scrolls Online, and Forza Motorsport. Although most of those were confirmed to appear before the showcase even began, there were a few surprises in store, including the reveal of Tango Gameworks next title.
Hi-Fi Rush sees you playing as Chai, voiced by Robbie Daymond, a wannabe rockstar that aims to make it big and ends up fighting against a robotic megacorp. Everything in Hi-Fi Rush automatically syncs to its soundtrack, from its combat to its movement, which means players need to pay attention to the beat in order to get ahead in combat. The biggest surprise of all is that Hi-Fi Rush is actually out today, and will be available to download a few hours after the show.
The Xbox Wire post announcing Hi-Fi Rush reveals a bit more about the game's story. Chai finds himself with a music player fused to his heart, which causes him to be labelled a defect. This sets the robotic megacorp after him as he adventures through the departments to take them down for good.
The Developer_Direct might have been where Hi-Fi Rush was formally announced by Xbox, but it's been a pretty open secret for some time now. Two years ago, the trademark for the game was spotted online, which was then later followed up by a trademarked logo late last year. Concept art for the project was also spotted online that seemed to support the rumours that it was a third-person shooter with an art style inspired by Jet Set Radio.
