The sequel to Horizon Zero Dawn is not a PS5 launch game, as the developer reveals it’ll have ‘virtually’ no loading screens.
Sony announced a lot of games during the PlayStation 5 reveal earlier in the month but very few of them had release dates attached, including key exclusive Horizon Forbidden West.
But now developer Guerrilla Games has announced that it’s ‘aiming’ to release the game in 2021, meaning it will not be a launch title when the console is released later this year.
The revelation was made in the new video above, where the developers also discuss the fact that the game will have ‘virtually no loading screens’, even when using fast travel.
The map is described as being a ‘bit bigger’ than the first game, stretching from Utah in the mid-west of the US to San Francisco and the Pacific Ocean.
As well as revealing that there will be dozens of new robot animals the short video also touches on the basics of the story, which revolve around environmental problems including a ‘red blight’ affecting vegetation and out of control weather systems.
The other major problem is an aggressive new tribe of humans that has learnt how to control robots and use them as war mounts.
What are the PS5 launch games?
Several games in the PlayStation 5 reveal were given 2020 release dates, but the only ones from Sony are Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Astro Bot’s Playroom. The other 2020 titles are Gearbox’s Godfall, Bethesda’s Deathloop, and indie titles Kena: Bridge Of Spirits, Jett: The Far Shore, and Bugsnax.
That doesn’t mean that some of the other games might not end up being released this year if they’re finished in time, but the fact that that’s not even being suggested at the moment means it’s probably unlikely.
As with all the other games revealed last week there’s no suggestion that any of the Sony exclusives will be released on PlayStation 4, which is exactly what you’d expect given Sony’s previous comments on the importance of format exclusives.
