Hyper Light Drifter’s story will continue. That’s the official word from developer Heart Machine as it has just announced Hyper Light Breaker, set in the same Hyper Light world but branching into a very different genre. Where the first was a 2D Zelda-like, Hyper Light Breaker is a fully 3D action rogue-lite.
Welcome to the Overgrowth, a vast open world with mysteries to solve, enemies to kill, and beaches to hoverboard over. Your character will also be able to use wall-dashing and a glider to freely traverse the game world either alone or in a team of up to five players, judging by the key art released by Heart Machine.
You play as the Breakers, a team that's vowed to overthrow the brutal Abyss King. To do that, you'll need to survive the mysterious Crowns while also defeating hordes of monsters and keeping the settlement safe. Just as with Hyper Light Drifter, Breaker will have a vast arsenal of weapons for players to unlock and upgrade, with screenshots revealing both guns and swords to choose from.
And since it's a rogue-lite, expect to die. More of Hyper Light Breaker's story will be revealed with each run, meaning to get the whole story you'll eventually need to fail. You can also talk to settlers in the settlement to learn about their stories while you uncover mysteries in the Overgrowth.

"Fans put their trust in us back then to deliver on the vision; we can’t wait for our community to experience Hyper Light Breaker – it’s a new path and culmination of everything we have learned over the past eight years of development at Heart Machine.”
Hyper Light Breaker's extremely stylistic trailer reveals some slick moves and an early access release window of spring 2023. Unlike Heart Machine’s last game, Solar Ash, Hyper Light Breaker already has a Steam page where you can wishlist it.
