Leaked Forza Motorsport images show it running on Xbox One – could be out 2022

The eighth Forza Motorsport game might be out this year after all, but it doesn’t seem to be an Xbox Series X exclusive anymore.

Although formats were never specified, the announcement for the next Forza Motorsport game seemed to suggest that it would only be released for the Xbox Series X/S.

One Reddit user has claimed otherwise, sharing a couple of images of the game, saying that they were taken in July of last year and that they’re from the Xbox One version.

The images were shared to the GamingLeaksAndRumours subreddit, where they were verified by the moderators as legitimate.

It’s worth remembering that developer Turn 10 invited fans to join a feedback programme last year, where they could get a chance to play the game themselves. So, it’s entirely plausible that that’s where the Reddit user got the pictures from.

The content of the images doesn’t necessarily confirm anything new about the game. Plus, if they were taken from a closed test in 2021, they’re not necessarily indicative of the final product.

It does make some sense for Microsoft to continue releasing major first party games for the Xbox One considering it still has a sizable user base. Although, with the Xbox Series X/S gradually reaching more and more households, that will eventually no longer be the case.

You can find a link to the images over on the Reddit thread (warning: they’re not terribly interesting in themselves). The user who posted them has deleted their account, probably to make it harder for Microsoft to track them down.

This isn’t the only detail about the game to have leaked either. During the most recent Xbox Two podcast, Windows Central’s Jez Corden claimed that the game is in the beta stages of development and several insiders have already played it.

What’s more, he suspects that it could launch later this year. If so, expect a release date announcement at Microsoft’s not E3 showcase in June. You can hear Corden’s comments from the 2:07:32 mark in the video below.

As a reminder, the newest entry is the eighth game in the series, but it will not be called Forza Motorsport 8. It’s only called Forza Motorsport, implying that it will serve as a reboot of the series.

Although announced in 2020, the game has never been mentioned in public again since, with many speculating that it was originally meant to be free-to-play, with an emphasis on microtransactions. It’s suspected that, like other games from the same period, such as Square Enix’s Avengers, Microsoft pivoted away from this plan once it became clear how it would be received publicly.
