There’s a great disturbance in the force somewhere in Knutsford, England, because LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga has been delayed until 2021. A new release window, there is.
No official word has been given by the publisher WB Games, but the LEGO website said the game will be delayed until next year, according to Raigor on ResetEra. They snapped a screenshot before it was taken down. LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga was initially slated for a release on October 20, 2020.
This comes shortly after the news of its confirmed appearance during Geoff Keighley’s Gamescom Opening Night Live, which starts airing tomorrow at 11am Pacific Time.
The Knutsford-based developer Traveller’s Tales will be taking us through all nine films of the Skywalker Saga from Episode I: The Phantom Menace all the way to Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker in TT’s signature cheeky comedic style. Unlike its Xbox 360 and PS3 counterpart, you can start the game from any point in the saga, so you don’t have to go through the mediocre prequels!
In an interview with StarWars.com, Craig Derrick, the Managing Producer at LucasFilm Games said that there will be new game mechanics within this 9-episode adventure. It will also bring new elements to the long-running LEGO series of games. When it releases in 2021, the game will have hundreds of characters from throughout the Star Wars universe. He called the game massive in scope. Let’s hope we see what they mean when they show some new footage at Gamescom Opening Night Live. Here’s the announcement trailer from June 2019:

The Star Wars series has been controversial as of late with the mixed reception of The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker, but the LEGO Star Wars games have always been a bright spot. TT Games’ sense of humor somehow works so well with this sci-fi fantasy epic, and it’s accessible for all ages. Many people have grown up since LEGO Star Wars released in the PS2 era, and now 16 years later, they will have a deep sense of nostalgia from this rebuilding of a classic series.
