Martha is Dead, an upcoming first-person psychological horror game from LKA, has built a reputation for being dark and scary, but it's looking like one version of the game will be less so as the PlayStation version has been censored, with a few scenes being made unplayable.
While the game is set to release in just a few weeks, an update from publisher Wired Productions reveals that not all of the content will make it to all players. Specifically, the developer has decided to remove some of the more “sensitive” content from the digital PlayStation release of the game.
A tweet from Wired Productions has given fans an update on the game and outlined why some content has been removed. The tweet acknowledges that the game is for adult audiences with “potentially discomforting scenes and themes that may distress some players”. As such, the publisher and LKA have remained “open and honest about Martha Is Dead content, with the sensitive depictions in play consistently communicated to the media”. They have also ensured that such content is flagged within the game before play begins.
However, after some thought and much deliberation, both parties have decided to “modify the experience on PS5 and PS4 versions”. This modification will completely remove some elements that are deemed too dark for players. While LKA will need extra time for these “unplanned changes”, the game will still launch digitally on February 24 for PS4 and PS5. Unfortunately, the physical release will be delayed to an as-yet-unknown date, though, it should only be a few short weeks.
Surprisingly, this sensitive content is only being removed from the PlayStation versions of the game. The update mentions that the PC and Xbox versions of Martha Is Dead will remain “unaffected by these developments and will launch with the full unedited gameplay as planned”. So, folks that wish to see what LKA and Wired Productions felt went too far for Sony can do so in the other versions.
