A reliable source claims to have heard word of a new Blade Runner game, but it sounds like it’s still very early in development.
Unlike other sci-fi franchises from the 80s, like The Terminator and Aliens, Blade Runner has had very few video games based on it. Only two to be precise.
Well, it’s apparently about to get one more, as it’s recently been claimed that developer and publisher 110 Industries has acquired the Blade Runner licence.
A brief cinematic trailer for a new Blade Runner game is said to have been shown at the company’s new studio in Switzerland, with the full game scheduled to release in 2025.
No other details were shared which, combined with its 2025 release window, strongly suggests that the project is still in its infancy. We don’t even know what genre it is.
It has been stressed that whatever it is, it’s unrelated to the enhanced edition of the 1997 point ‘n’ click Blade Runner game (simply called Blade Runner) still in development.
That one’s being handled by Nightdive Studios, which has experience with working on remasters, with previous examples including last year’s Quake and 2015’s Turok: Dinosaur Hunter.
The claim comes courtesy of a Try Hard Guides report by insider Tom Henderson. He’s regularly proved to be a reliable source, having recently shared early info on Hideo Kojima’s next game (which we know is accurate because Kojima asked the report to be taken down).
110 Industries is already working on at least three other projects according to its website, with action game Wanted: Dead intended to be the first one to release later this year.
The other two are Vengeance Is Mine, which will feature melee mech combat and is scheduled for 2023, and futuristic racing game Red Goes Faster in 2024.
It’s also speculated to be working with Shenmue creator Yu Suzuki on the next entry in the series, but there’s no hard evidence beyond vague comments and Suzuki speaking at the company’s 2021 Tokyo Game Show presentation.
