Nier Replicant: The Fisherman’s Gambit Quest Walkthrough

One of the many quests available in Nier Replicant is “The Fisherman’s Gambit”, which is a series of quests given to you by an old Fisherman in Seafront. This questline is crucial to being able to collect all types of fish available in the game and enabling you to earn the two fishing-related trophies/achievements in the process.

Progressing through this questline improves your fishing skill, which in turn allows you to catch more types of fish. We’ve got a complete guide and walkthrough of this quest chain right here, so you know exactly where and how to catch the fish needed to complete the fisherman’s many requests.

The Fisherman’s Gambit Quest Walkthrough

You can begin “The Fisherman’s Gambit” by speaking to the old fisherman NPC in Seafront that first gave you a fishing rod, as shown above.

This will begin a series of quests where he asks you to catch a certain type of fish, and on your return, he will improve your fishing skill. Additionally, each time you hand in a specific quest, the related fish will become available for purchase from the Fish Shop in Sea Front.

The first quest becomes available as soon as you have caught a shaman fish for Yonah as part of the main storyline. Each subsequent quest will unlock on completion of the previous one.

The first five quests are available in Part One of the game, but the last four quests cannot be undertaken until Part Two. Fortunately, these quests never become missable. So, if you haven’t started any of the quests and you are already in the second half of the game, you can still undertake them by speaking to the NPC.

Below is a breakdown of each request.
