Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors is full of mystery, evident in the escape rooms that you must make your way through. In total, the game has six endings, each one providing insight into the Nonary Games and the reason why you are there.
999 encourages you to continue playing after you get an ending, but reaching the other paths may be difficult at first. In this guide, we are going to go over how to get each of the six endings that the game has to offer.
Since we are covering the endings, this guide will contain some spoilers, so proceed with caution!
How To Unlock The Submarine Ending
The Submarine ending is pretty easy to get. To get this ending, all you need to do is go through Door 2. This ending is unaffected by the doors that you went through previously.
Overall, this ending leads to the death of nearly everybody in the game, with Junpei dying in the submarine pool, giving this ending its name.
How To Unlock The Knife Ending
There are three possible ways to get the knife ending, all ending in going through Door 6. Below, you can check out the rooms that you should go through to get this ending.

This is another bad ending, resulting in the death of nearly everyone.
How To Unlock The Safe Ending
There is only one way to achieve the Safe ending. You should go through the doors in the following order to see this one:
- Door 5
- Door 8
- Door 6
The safe that is being referred to in this ending can be found within the bedroom closet in the 1st Class Cabin. This ending will also contain important plot information to help you make sense of the Nonary Games, and is required before getting the True ending.
How To Unlock The Axe Ending
To achieve the Axe ending, you need to go through Door 1. This ending is another easy one to get, but if you don't want to get the True ending at this point, be sure to not meet the four requirements for the True ending that will be mentioned later.
As the name suggests, this is another bad ending resulting in Junpei's death by axe.
How To Unlock The True Ending
This is the real ending of the game, however, to see it, you will need to have seen the Safe ending mentioned above.
There are four requirements for getting this ending. First, you must go through Door 4 (2nd Class Cabin) and take the Clover bookmark from Santa.
Later, while in the Kitchen, Akane will tell a story about Ice-9. Here, you will need to select "It did strike Junpei as rather odd".
Next, you will need to go through Door 7 into the Operating Room. While here, give the bookmark to Clover. Now, there's just one step left to get the true ending!
Lastly, you need to go through Door 1. There are no additional steps, and you will now be on track to see the True ending. In this ending, you successfully escape from the game and there are no additional deaths.
How To Unlock The Coffin Ending
This unique ending follows the exact same path as the True ending. If you are pursuing the True ending but have not seen the Safe ending yet, then you will receive the Coffin one.
When confronted with the lock on the coffin, you will not be able to open it because you don't know the code, which can be found in the Safe ending. After failing to input the correct code, the game will end with a 'To be continued' screen.
That's every ending in 999! Be sure to get them all, so you can fully piece together the story of the Nonary Games. If you are craving more escape rooms, don't forget to play the two sequels, Virtue's Last Reward and Zero Time Dilemma.
