- How To Beat Sonic Juice
Sonic Juice is one of the bosses in No More Heroes 3. He is ranked third in the Galactic Superhero Rank. He makes his first appearance in the eighth episode titled "Loyalty" in the Inside UFO stage. After taking a lot of time to approach you, he will apologize and try to negotiate. Sonic Juice will be against fighting Travis but will also not leave the planet, thus making the fight between the two inevitable.
The fight with this enemy is another unique boss fight that changes gameplay twice. The entire battle is enjoyable and hectic — but can be pretty challenging if you do not pay attention to his attacks. Here is all you need to know on how you can beat Sonic Juice.
Sonic Juice's Battle And Its Rewards
After disagreeing to leave the planet because of his fear of FU, the boss will face Travis in a fight of his genre choice. Defeating the boss will earn you the Muscat Juice (Rare). Beating Sonic Juice in the Time Machine on Death Difficulty will get you the Grape Juice (Super Rare).
Learning Sonic Juice's Attacks
Sonic Juice has a variety of water-based attacks that he will use throughout the fight. Following are all the attacks the boss will use in the green, yellow, and red health bar phases of the battle.
Attack | Description |
---|---|
Arm Sweep | Sonic Juice sweeps his arm around across the front part of the stage. |
Flat Water Wheel | The boss puts his index finger in the middle of the stage and causes a water wheel to emerge. This water wheel can go in a clockwise or anticlockwise direction. If Travis gets hit by one of the streams, he will be knocked over. However, this will not stop the attack. |
Hammer Punch | Sonic Juice raises his arm and brings it down like a hammer onto the middle of the stage. |
Ink Bullets | The boss will shoot ink bullets towards Travis. The chance of them missing is high because of their random trajectory. |
Legendary Water | Sonic Juice summons a giant ball of water in his hand and then hurls at Travis's location. |
Rest in Peace Tidal Wave | The boss will move backward and launch a huge tidal wave towards Travis. The wave can come from the right or left side of the arena. |
Vertical Water Wheel | Sonic Juice makes a Vertical wheel that spins rapidly and goes near the end of the stage. |
Water Ripples | The boss will create three water ripples that cause water to blast upwards. The first ripple will be in the center of the stage, followed by the second ripple that affects the middle of the arena and has a wide radius. Lastly, the third ripple will cause water to shoot upwards around the border areas of the arena. |
JRPG Fight Section Explained
After the cutscene ends, Sonic Juice will start the fight in turn-based Japanese RPG style. Instead of using your Beam Katana to use attacks on the boss by getting close to it, now you will have to attack and defend when it is your turn.
The game's layout will change, and you will see multiple options to choose from. "Fight" allows you to attack the boss, but it barely does any damage. "Magic" enables Travis to cast spells, but you can not do so because you do not have any magic points except for Thunder, which does 777 damage. You can not make use of "Summon" to summon a companion to aid you. "Items" will allow you to heal Travis back to full health. You will not be able to use the "Run" command as you can not run away from bosses. Pressing "Charge" will allow you to replenish Beam Katana's battery.
The more you try to damage the boss, the more you will realize that he is not taking much damage. You will also notice that when clicking "Fight," you can attack the Command Window, which has a total of 600 health points.
You need to take the Window out to end the turn-based combat and start the regular boss fight.
How To Beat Sonic Juice
Sonic Juice has three health bars, green, yellow, and red. In the green phase, the boss will use the Hammer Punch, slamming down his hand in the middle of the arena. You need to dodge this attack to any side and then hit his hand to damage him. The boss also summons a giant ball of water at Travis that can only be dodged or does severe damage. He will occasionally shoot ink bullets at you, which has a slight chance of hitting. You can block these bullets to avoid any damage.
Staying close is recommended as it will allow you to make great use of your Death Slow, which deal tons of damage to the boss whenever he is casting an attack.
However, Sonic Juice will sweep his arm in the front part of the arena if you are close enough. You can easily avoid this by stepping backward whenever you see him doing the animation for the Arm Sweep.
After taking out his green health bar, he will perform new attacks during his new yellow one, continuing in the red health bar phase. The boss will now use his water wheel attacks at Travis. For example, the Flat Water Wheel attack, where he will make a water wheel spin around the arena in a clockwise or anticlockwise direction. You can either jump over the streams or keep moving inside one area between two streams.
It would be best to use Death Rain anytime you get it because it will allow you to damage the boss while avoiding the attacks he throws at you.
This water being will also use the Vertical Water Wheel, where he pushes a wheel towards Travis. You need to step back towards the end of the arena to avoid this attack. Also, you can charge your Beam Katana to full battery during this attack.
Another ability Sonic Juice will use is the creation of three water ripples — the first two will start from the center of the stage, and the last ripple will form in the borders. Dodging this will require timing as you need to jump into the center area soon after the second ripple blasts upwards.
Make sure to use Full Armor in the red health phase, as the fight can be more challenging later on.
Finally, the boss will launch a tidal wave that moves across the whole stage. To dodge this, you will have to look where the wave started from. If it started from the right side of the arena, then you can find a gap in the left-most side of the wave. Similarly, there will be a gap on the right side if the wave starts from the left. Try to keep moving around when you see the animation, allowing you to quickly judge where you will need to go once the wave moves towards Travis.
After defeating the boss, you will let him go, but FU will arrive and kill Sonic Juice just before leaving.
