Tips And Tricks For Playing Wrecking Ball
As a solo Tank, Wrecking Ball can be difficult compared to other Tank's whose roles in the team are more obvious. With Wrecking Ball, your main goal is to disrupt the enemy, mainly using Ball form and Grappling Hook to quickly maneuver around and through them.
Rolling Out
In Ball form, you will gain increased movement speed, and ramming into enemies will knock them back. Using the Grappling Hook will enable you to swing and pivot your direction, increasing or decreasing your momentum, and enabling you to reach new areas.
Using these mechanics, you'll need to protect your team by disrupting the enemy. There are several ways to do this, but the simplest is to just ram straight into them. By diving into the enemy team, you will draw their attention to you, forcing them to focus their attacks on you instead of your team.
While the enemy is focused on attacking you, activate your Adaptive Shield to grant more health. The more enemies are nearby, the more health you will gain.
When the enemy starts retreating, single out and chase down a prime target, like a support Hero. This can be done outside of team fights too, and is one of the best ways to assist your team. By disrupting and eliminating key targets, you will throw the enemy team into chaos, making them easier for the rest of your team to push back.
Additionally, while in attacking phases, you can peel enemies away from your team by quickly rolling through them and to the objective. By doing this, you ensure at least one or two enemies follow you to the point to prevent you from capturing it, giving your team a numbers advantage on the frontlines.
Piledriver Support
Using Piledriver, you can launch enemies into the air, making them easier targets for your teammates to hit. By Piledriving, you can launch enemies hiding behind walls or shields, putting them into the air for your team to pick off.
Piledriver is one of Wrecking Ball's best offensive tools, as it can deal good damage when used from high in the air. Utilize the Grappling Hook to gain height, then slam down on the enemy for big damage.
Deploying Mines
Wrecking Ball's Minefield is a powerful tool that can turn the tide of battle or secure an objective point. When used on its own, you can make an entire area unsafe, covering it with mines that deal over half of most Heroes' health with one explosion, and instantly kill them if they are hit by two mines.
Minefield can be combined with other Ultimates like Zarya, Sigma, or Mei to increase its effectiveness, making it harder for the enemy to avoid the mines.
When used in the air, the mines will spread further, covering more ground and thus securing more space for your team. Using Minefield from the air will cover most capture objectives, allowing your team to either defend the point easier or secure eliminations and capture it.
