Life doesn't always go your way. You may not get the job you want, the person you have a crush on may not like you back, and the Starbucks barista will probably never spell your name correctly. But there's always one thing you can do to make yourself feel better – go on a shopping spree and deck yourself in new threads. This is true for video games as well, a new outfit is sure to freshen things up when things begin to feel stale.
Unfortunately, Pokemon Scarlet & Violet will not allow you to do so, forcing you to stick to the school uniform you've seen in the trailers. There are four variants of this uniform, which don't look very different, and you can swap out some minor accessories. As you'd expect, this didn't go down well with a lot of players who surely needed a pick-me-up, considering how broken the game is at the moment.
As you can see from the Reddit rant below, players are not happy that they have to stick to a costume that they don't like, especially when customisation options were present in previous entries. The comments were in agreement, with one of them saying, "The required uniform thing was such a backwards design choice. All the improvements they made to customization, and they completely dropped the ball on this aspect which just drags down the whole thing. Just STUPID."
There were complaints on Twitter as well, "I’m sad that the uniforms are the only outfits in pokemon scarlet and violet, the customisation is soooo good it’s a crime that you’re stuck with the unflattering plain school outfits the whole time," said Izzzyzzz.
Pokemon Scarlet & Violet players are at a loss to understand why Game Freak has made this decision, especially after the costumes and customisation in Pokemon Sword & Shield were heavily praised.
This is just one among a plethora of issues plaguing Scarlet & Violet, which is filled to the brim with bugs and glitches. It currently has the second-lowest Metacritic score of any mainline Pokemon game and players are already so frustrated that they have demanded that Nintendo issue refunds.
